Sinharaja is a highly pristine massive primary rainforest meaning the upper canopy is incredibly incredibly dense. Even during the absolute peak of midday the towering trees completely block out the vast majority of direct sunlight creating a deeply shaded cool green environment on the forest floor.

While it is relatively dim you absolutely do not need to carry a flashlight for a standard daytime hike. Your eyes adjust perfectly quickly. The low light actually makes photographing the highly colorful endemic birds slightly challenging so a camera with a very good low light lens is highly recommended.
