We want a unique historical site without the massive entrance fee. Should we visit Yapahuwa.

Yapahuwa is an absolutely phenomenal, highly underrated alternative. While it lacks the world famous frescoes and sprawling water gardens of Sigiriya, its magnificent, deeply ornate stone staircase guarded by Chinese inspired lions is a total architectural masterpiece.

The biggest advantage is the total lack of crowds. You can climb the ruins in absolute peace, enjoying the sweeping valley views entirely alone. Furthermore, the entrance fee is a tiny fraction of the massive 30 USD ticket demanded at Sigiriya.
