Kandy to Ella train 30 day booking window not opening
I am trying to book second class reserved on the 1015 train Kandy to Ella for 12 June through eservices railway gov lk but the calendar shows only up to 10 June It is exactly 30 days out but the slot is missing Is there a maintenance window or is the IT system glitching again What is my fallback if reserved sells out

The booking site releases new dates at 9 AM Sri Lanka time exactly 30 days ahead but they often release in batches around midnight Wait 24 hours and refresh in the morning Sri Lanka Railways had a brief outage last week which may explain the gap If second class reserved sells out fall back is observation saloon (only 36 seats book through Hatton Travels) or just buy unreserved second class for 350 LKR at the counter same morning
Right side of the train leaving Kandy gives the best tea plantation views Left side gets the better waterfalls between Nanu Oya and Haputale
Train 1015 leaves Kandy 0847 arrives Ella 1500 Two food vendors come through but bring water and a snack the journey is over 6 hours
If you really want reserved consider Visit dot lk or 12go they charge a markup but they confirm seats often when the official site is broken
Unreserved second class is actually the better experience if you board at Kandy 30 minutes early You stand at the open doors get all the photos and chat with locals
