Leech socks are your first line of defense, but you must treat them. Soak the socks in strong salt water and let them dry before you hike. Also, carry a small spray bottle of Ayurvedic Siddhalepa balm dissolved in water, or a strong Dettol mixture. Spray it on your boots and knees every 30 minutes. Do not lean on wet foliage.

Thanks. I will definitely prep the Dettol spray bottle.

If one bites you, do not rip it off! That leaves the jaws in your skin and causes bad infections. Just touch it with salt or a lighter flame and it drops off instantly.

Tuck your shirt into your pants, and your pants into your leech socks. If there is a gap, they will find it.
