Kosgoda hatchery on the way south - tourist tanks or is Rekawa the only honest turtle night

Coastal drive Saturday. Every van stops at a Kosgoda hatchery. Pearl Protectors and a 2026 ethics guide say a lot of them hold hatchlings for selfies. Rekawa night walk is another 90 minutes east. We have a 6-year-old who will cry if we say no to turtles. What is the least-bad version this week.

A hatchery that advertises "hold the baby" or a guaranteed daytime release is a shop. Ask how long hatchlings sit in tanks and whether eggs are bought from collectors. Victor Hasselblad / the longer-running Kosgoda conservation project is the name people use when they still stop. Rekawa Turtle Watch is the better conservation story - nests on the beach, night walk, you might see nothing. August is quieter nesting than winter.

We skipped the first three painted signs, paid a donation at a quieter place, no handling. Kid survived.
