I am bringing a 600mm lens to Kumana for bird photography. Do jeep drivers charge extra for large camera gear or require a private jeep.

Jeep drivers do not charge extra for camera gear. However, a 600mm lens requires a lot of space to maneuver. If you share a jeep with 5 other tourists, you will be constantly bumping into them. For serious photography, always book a private jeep so you can shoot from both sides of the vehicle.

Bring a beanbag to rest your lens on the metal roof rails of the jeep. It helps immensely with stabilization.

I shared a jeep and a guy with a massive lens kept hitting my head every time a bird flew by. Definitely get a private one.
