My flight from Amsterdam lands at 2245 tonight Should I sleep in Negombo close to airport (5000 LKR guesthouse) or push through to Colombo (45 minute drive) to start the trip in the city tomorrow morning I plan to head straight to Sigiriya day after What is the practical move for jet lag and morning logistics

Negombo by far for a 2245 arrival 15 minute PickMe to a guesthouse versus 45 minutes minimum to Colombo plus paying for an overpriced city hotel for what amounts to 6 sleeping hours Negombo lagoon is also pretty for a morning walk before you head to Sigiriya (skip Colombo entirely on first trip many travelers do) From Negombo you can take a direct car to Sigiriya in 4 hours via the new Central Expressway opens at 0500 Sleep recover then go

Skipping Colombo is honestly fine on first trip the colonial fort area is small the cultural triangle and hill country are where the magic is Save Colombo for 1 night at the end before flight

Negombo to Sigiriya by direct van is fine but the train option Negombo to Habarana via Colombo Fort is scenic and only 6 hours total cheaper too
