Late night partying in Arugam Bay and avoiding stray dogs safely
If we party at Whisky Point until 3 AM is it safe to walk back to town or do the beach dogs get aggressive

Do NOT walk back from Whisky Point to Arugam Bay town at night! It is a 15-minute drive down an unlit dirt road. Not only are the stray dog packs highly territorial and aggressive at night, but wild elephants frequently cross that specific road. It is incredibly dangerous. You must negotiate a tuk-tuk ride before you go out.
The beach is even worse for dogs, and you have to cross a lagoon mouth which has crocodiles. Do not do it.
What about walking along the beach instead of the road
The tuktuk drivers at the party will charge triple the normal rate, but pay it. It is your safety.
If a dog does charge you, never run. Stand your ground and pretend to throw a stone.
Just pre-book a driver through your hostel to pick you up at 3 AM.
