Do we need to sleep under nets everywhere and apply heavy DEET spray constantly.

Dengue fever is a persistent risk in Sri Lanka, especially during and immediately after the monsoon rains when stagnant water pools everywhere. You must be diligent about applying strong mosquito repellent containing DEET every single morning and evening.

Almost all reputable hotels and guesthouses provide clean mosquito nets over the beds or have air conditioned, sealed rooms. Sleeping under a net is highly recommended, especially in rural areas or near the national parks.
