Partner wants to "buy beer tonight, last night before mourning." Mourning for Nanda Malini is 21-23. Today is Friday 21. We are already inside it. Someone asked if Peradeniya bars were pouring at 9.50. Someone else said buy Wednesday before Nikini. This is the calendar from a 10.34 room: did we miss Thursday 20, is mourning even a bottle rule, and is the real dry day Nikini Thursday 27 with Grand Randoli 6.43.

National mourning 21-23 Aug is flags at state institutions, remains in Nugegoda until Sat 3.30, Borella Sat 5 PM. It is not a liquor gazette we found on Ada / Newswire / Newsfirst / Mirror at 10:42, and it is not a Perahera cancellation. Nikini Poya Thursday 27 August is the island dry day, same civil date as Grand Randoli 6:43 PM. If you want bottles for a Poya night, the usual plan is buy before Thursday 27 - not "tonight because mourning starts tomorrow," because mourning already started this morning.
A 10.34 bottle-shop walk is a shop-hours question, not a gazette. Inland, not Dalada. Do not treat a shuttered lake restaurant as a Poya sign (that thread was dinner). I cannot swear the bottle-shop hours at 22:34.
We bought nothing, slept, found a hotel Lion Saturday. Mourning was flags, not a raid.

TukTuk or tour drivers take you to "gem museums" or "government-certified" gem shops. They receive huge commissions (up to 40%) on anything you buy. Prices are inflated 3-10x the actual value.
Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
