They offer unique boat safaris on the Senanayake reservoir where you can watch wild elephants swimming between islands. It is entirely disconnected from the surfer party vibe of the coast.

Gal Oya Lodge also arranges walks with the indigenous Vedda community. Highly recommend it.

We stayed near Kumana National Park. There are some rustic cabanas there, but you have to bring all your own food and water.
