Established venues like Mambo’s have security and are generally safe. However, standard global party rules apply. Drink spiking (often with cheap local spirits, not date-rape drugs) is a risk at any beach rave. Never accept open drinks from strangers, stick to bottled beer that is opened in front of you, and do not walk back to your hotel along the pitch-black beach. Take a tuk-tuk on the main road.

Also, do not leave your bags unattended on the sand while you dance. Locals monkeys sleep at night, but beach thieves do not.

If a bartender offers you a "free local herbal shot", politely decline. It is often unregulated moonshine.
