We want a quiet place to watch the sunset in Ahangama before the heavy partying starts. The main beaches are too crowded.

Head to Koggala lake, just a 10-minute drive away. Hire a local boatman to take you to Cinnamon Island or just float on the lake during golden hour. It is incredibly serene, away from the coastal bass music, and the colors reflecting on the calm water are stunning.

The lake sounds perfect. A nice reset before the techno starts.

There is also a tiny strip of sand near the stilt fishermen in Ahangama. If you go right before sunset, the tour buses have left and it is very peaceful.

Do not climb onto private villa walls to get a photo. Locals get very annoyed by that.
