We want to walk through tea plantations in Nuwara Eliya but want to avoid the commercial factory tours. Are there open trails we can explore.

Yes! Head towards the Pedro Tea Estate, but do not go to the factory. Instead, find the trailhead for the "Lovers Leap" viewpoint. It is a stunning, quiet hike directly through the working tea fields up to a rocky outcrop overlooking the entire valley. The estate allows tourists to walk on the main dirt tractor paths. Just do not walk into the bushes themselves.

You can also hike up Single Tree Hill. The path goes right through the tea estates and is totally free.

No, the path is very obvious and used by locals daily. Just use Maps.me to find the start.

Lovers Leap is beautiful, and you will pass the tea pluckers working. Remember to smile!
