The rock faces east, which means it catches beautiful warm light in the first couple of hours after sunrise. You'll also be shooting into the light for most western-facing angles.
If you come back tomorrow, aim to be at the gate right when it opens — currently around 7:00 AM, but confirm at the ticket office today since hours can shift. The golden hour light lasts roughly until 9:00–9:30 AM before it gets too bright and flat. You'll also beat the tour bus crowds, which typically arrive mid-morning, making the spiral staircase to the frescoes and the summit far less stressful.
That said, if you're here this afternoon and won't have another chance, it's still worth going up — the views from the summit are spectacular regardless of light, and late afternoon (around 4:30–5:30 PM) does soften a little as the sun drops.
