South Coast short trips (Galle to Unawatuna, Weligama to Mirissa) — train or bus?
Moving between nearby south coast towns. Is train or bus better for short distances?

For short hops between south coast towns, buses are usually more frequent and convenient than trains. Trains on this section are limited and stations can be a bit outside town centers. Buses run regularly along the coastal road and are cheap. Tuk-tuks work well for very short distances. Trains are better for longer journeys (like Colombo to Galle or Kandy to Ella). For moving between Galle, Unawatuna, Weligama, and Mirissa, buses or tuk-tuks/private drivers are more practical. The coastal road is scenic and buses give you good views. Trains are great when the route aligns well with your itinerary.
