We are driving our rental tuk tuk between Mirissa and Weligama parties. Are there police checkpoints late at night testing for alcohol.

Yes, absolutely. The traffic police set up checkpoints specifically outside major party hubs on the Galle Road at 2 AM. The limit is 0.08. Do not drink and drive your rental tuk tuk.

I saw three foreigners get arrested near Weligama bay last week. Just pay 500 rupees for a local driver.
