Yes! If you stay at places with an unobstructed view of the southern drop-off (like near the Adisham Bungalow or Idalgashinna), you can actually use binoculars to spot wild elephants roaming in the Udawalawe national park buffer zones far below. The best time to look is just before dusk when they move toward the lakes to drink. It is a very cool hidden secret of the hill country.

We saw a whole herd from our balcony using a camera zoom lens. It looked like tiny ants moving!
