Sweepers already on Dalada - walk the dung-and-husk road or stay on the pavement
Brooms, a tractor sound, coconut husks in heaps, the smell. The pavement is still people. The roadway suddenly looks like a shortcut. Is that an invitation to walk the empty lane or how you step in dung and get yelled at.

Stay on the pavement until an officer walks you across. Sweepers + a tractor means they are clearing, not opening a pedestrian boulevard. Dung, oil, wet husks, and the odd glass. The shortcut is an ankle.
We watched a man cut through the husks Wednesday and leave a flip-flop behind. Pavement.
If you need the other side, use a junction an officer is already managing. Not mid-block through the pile.
Scam Watch: kandy
TukTuk or tour drivers take you to "gem museums" or "government-certified" gem shops. They receive huge commissions (up to 40%) on anything you buy. Prices are inflated 3-10x the actual value.
Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
