Taking the local bus from Ella down to Wellawaya for Diyaluma
4 Answers from travellers
It is very easy. Buses heading to Wellawaya, Kataragama, or Monaragala all pass through Ella and go down the mountain. Stand at the main bus stop in Ella town. They come roughly every 30 minutes. The ride takes about an hour, is incredibly scenic (and winding!), and costs less than 200 LKR.
Or negotiate a tuk-tuk from Wellawaya bus stand for the last stretch. It is faster.
Once you get to Wellawaya, you will need to catch a different bus heading towards Koslanda to reach Diyaluma.

People outside stations offer to "help" buy tickets but charge large markups. They may buy cheap third-class tickets and sell as more expensive classes.
