Yes this is a highly dangerous trap that you must avoid entirely. Sri Lanka has incredibly strict draconian laws regarding narcotics. Sometimes shady drivers will offer to sell tourists illicit substances.

In severe cases these individuals are secretly working as informants. They sell to a tourist and immediately inform corrupt local officers who then demand a massive cash bribe to avoid jail time. Firmly say no and use a different driver immediately.
