Level 2 is the same rating many European countries carry, and it is tied to occasional political demonstrations, not to any threat against tourists. Demonstrations, when they happen, are usually announced, localized in central Colombo, and easy to simply avoid. Tourist zones, the south coast and the cultural triangle are calm. Solo female travel here is genuinely common and the country is considered one of the safer ones in the region for it.

Practical tips: use PickMe or Uber instead of street tuk-tuks at night, dress modestly at temples and rural towns, and trust your gut on crowded buses. I host solo women every week and they travel the whole island happily.

Solo female here, did 3 weeks alone. Felt safer than parts of Europe. The catcalling exists but it is mild. Just be normal-cautious, especially late at night on empty beaches.
