Adisham is a working Benedictine monastery. Because the monks require peace and quiet, they only open the house and gardens to tourists on Weekends (Saturday and Sunday), and Poya (public holidays). Do not go on a weekday; the gates will be locked. You must dress modestly, and absolutely try their homemade strawberry jam sold at the gate!

Good to know about the weekend rule. I almost booked a tuk-tuk for a Tuesday.

The architecture looks exactly like a Scottish castle. Very surreal to see it in the middle of a Sri Lankan jungle.

The strawberry jam and fresh cordial they make there is the best in the country. Buy two jars.
