The lake path is well-lit and generally safe on the town side (near the Temple of the Tooth). However, the back side of the lake gets very dark and quiet. It is not recommended to walk the dark sections alone late at night due to occasional stray dog packs and a lack of foot traffic. Also, avoid standing directly under the trees; they are filled with roosting fruit bats and crows that will make a mess of your clothes.

I got pooped on by a bat walking there at 8 PM. It was awful. Wear a hat.

Good to know. We will stick to the lit paths near the restaurants.

There are no strict curfews, but Kandy town essentially shuts down by 9:30 PM anyway.
