Waterfall meditation and trekking at Ashburnham Estate in Knuckles
5 Answers from travellers
Yes, the estate has access to some beautifully secluded cascades that are perfect for forest bathing and meditation. The key is to start your trek by 6:00 AM. By mid-morning, the estate workers begin their day, and while they are quiet, you will lose that absolute wilderness silence. The water is freezing but incredibly invigorating.
The hike back up to the estate is steep. Treat it as a walking meditation. It is breathtaking in both scenery and exertion.
Make sure to check yourself for leeches right after meditating. They are very active in the damp leaf litter near the falls.
Take a small yoga mat. The rocks near the lower falls are flat and perfect for seating, but they get slippery from the morning mist.
Cold water immersion in those highland streams is incredible for your vagus nerve. Just focus on your breathwork when you step in!
