We hired a private driver for 7 days. How much should we tip at the end?
We have hired a driver/guide for a week-long tour around the Cultural Triangle and Hill Country. He has been amazing so far—safe driving, knows all the spots, and buys us king coconuts.
We have already paid the agency for the car hire. What is the standard tip for the driver personally? Is it a percentage or a daily rate?

Drivers rely heavily on tips as their base salary from agencies is often quite low. If he has been "amazing," here is the standard breakdown:
Standard Guide: A safe baseline is 1,500 – 2,500 LKR per day.
Exceptional Guide: If he went above and beyond (helping with kids, finding off-the-beaten-path spots, acting as a translator), 3,000+ LKR per day is a generous and very appreciated tip.
How to Pay: Give the total amount in an envelope at the end of the trip when you are saying goodbye. It’s a nice gesture to give a small "advance" tip (like 1000 LKR) mid-trip if you want him to grab lunch, but the bulk should be at the end.
