Is Sigiriya Lion Rock really worth $36 USD? Or should I just do Pidurangala?
I'm trying to budget for our trip and I was shocked to see the entrance fee for Sigiriya Lion Rock is now around $36 (USD equivalent). That seems huge for a single hike.
I’ve heard Pidurangala Rock is right next to it, costs only $3, and offers a view of the Lion Rock. Is it a mistake to skip the main attraction to save money?

The Case for Pidurangala ($3): If you are young, fit, and on a tight budget, Pidurangala is fantastic. It is a fun scramble (rock climbing at the top), and the sunrise view looking at Sigiriya is iconic.
The Case for Sigiriya ($36): You are paying for history, not just a view. Sigiriya is an ancient palace fortress with 1,500-year-old frescoes, the Mirror Wall, and the Lion Paws. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
My Verdict: If you are a history buff or it's your first time, pay the money and do Sigiriya. Skipping it is like going to Paris and skipping the Eiffel Tower because the building next to it is cheaper.
