I want to hike Pidurangala for sunrise to see Sigiriya rock. How sketchy is the rock scrambling at the very top in the dark?

Bring a headlamp! The first 80% of the hike is uneven stone steps. The last 20% is legitimate rock scrambling where you need to use both hands to pull yourself up between boulders. It is totally doable, but you need your hands free, so don't rely on a phone flashlight.

You have to pass through a temple at the very bottom. Shoulders and knees must be covered. You can take the cover-ups off once you pass the temple and start the actual climb.

There will be a line of other tourists doing it at the same time, so people help each other up the hard parts. The view at the top is the best in Sri Lanka.
