Ritigala is perfect if you enjoy a mystical forest atmosphere. Unlike Sigiriya, there are no paintings or massive lions, but the stone pathways and meditation platforms are beautifully integrated into the jungle. The hike is a series of stone stairs and is moderately easy for anyone with basic fitness. It is much cooler than the surrounding plains because of the microclimate on the mountain. Expect to spend about two hours here.
Wear decent walking shoes as the mossy stones can be very slippery after rain. There are no vendors inside, so bring your own water. It is one of the most peaceful archaeological sites in the Cultural Triangle.
