That is the Wellawaya-Monaragala road, Kalu Bridge at Kumbukkana. Fatal, ugly, both drivers in custody. These usually reopen the same day once the scene is photographed. I would still ask a local in Wellawaya at 7am, not trust last night's Maps pin. Alternative is the longer A-Bay loop you already know.
We passed mid-afternoon; one lane, slow, not closed. Treat that as one car's report, not a gazette.

People outside stations offer to "help" buy tickets but charge large markups. They may buy cheap third-class tickets and sell as more expensive classes.
