While the hill country is famous for waterfalls, the south coast has its own secret spots. Secret Waterfall, located slightly inland from the beaches, is a wonderful, quiet cascade surrounded by dense jungle.

Hiring a local tuk tuk driver and asking them to take you to the village bathing spots will often reveal beautiful, unnamed streams and mini waterfalls hidden in the southern jungle.

You can also visit the Welihena Waterfall near Matara. It is very small compared to the mountain falls, but it offers a beautiful, secluded natural pool to cool off in away from the salty ocean.
