Besides the sacred Temple of the Tooth, the top things to do in Kandy include a peaceful morning walk around Kandy Lake and a visit to the spectacular Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya.
You should also definitely watch a traditional Kandyan cultural dance show in the evening. It features incredible drumming and fire walking.

Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
