Lamprais is an incredibly rich, complex Dutch Burgher dish. It consists of short grain samba rice boiled in meat stock, mixed with deeply spiced meat curries, frikkadels meatballs, and blachan, all baked slowly inside a wrapped banana leaf.

Because it takes immense effort to prepare authentically, you rarely find it on the street. The absolute best places to eat it in Colombo are the Dutch Burgher Union or VOC Cafe, which stick strictly to the traditional centuries old recipe.
