I saw children offering green leaves to their parents. What does it signify.

Offering a sheaf of fresh green betel leaves is a deeply profound incredibly beautiful sign of ultimate absolute respect and gratitude in traditional Sri Lankan culture.

During the Avurudu festival younger family members formally present the beautifully arranged leaves directly to their parents and elders gracefully bowing to touch their feet. In return the elders warmly bless them for the coming year offering immense forgiveness and renewing the strong family bond.
