What is the Sabaragamuwa dance style.
How does this regional style differ from the more famous Kandyan and Low Country traditions.

The Sabaragamuwa dance style originates from the Ratnapura district. It is a fascinating hybrid that elegantly bridges the gap between the acrobatic, regal Kandyan style and the dramatic, ritualistic Low Country style.
The dancers wear distinctly different costumes, featuring white, pleated lower garments and less elaborate metallic jewelry compared to the Kandyan performers, focusing heavily on honoring the local deity Saman.
Unlike Kandyan dancing which uses the Geta Bera, Sabaragamuwa dancers are accompanied by the Davula drum. This specific drum is played using a stick in one hand and the bare palm on the other, creating a very unique, driving polyrhythm.
