You must start the climb from Dalhousie around 1:00 AM or 2:00 AM to ensure you reach the summit before the 6:00 AM sunrise. The climb consists of over 5500 steep concrete steps, so pace yourself slowly.
It gets incredibly cold and windy at the summit while you wait for the sun. You absolutely must pack a warm fleece jacket, a beanie, and long pants. You will freeze if you only wear a sweaty t shirt.
Avoid climbing on Poya full moon days or local public holidays during the pilgrimage season. The crowds become so massive that you can get stuck completely at a standstill on the stairs for hours.
