I am planning to hike surf and maybe ride a scooter Do standard travel insurance policies cover these in Sri Lanka and is there anything specific like altitude or scooter riding I need to add so a claim is not rejected

Read the activity list carefully. Three things commonly trip up tourists here: (1) Scooter/motorbike riding is often only covered if you hold the correct licence AND the local recognition permit, and many basic policies exclude motorbikes entirely. (2) Some insurers add altitude clauses; high hikes like Adams Peak or trekking above a certain elevation may need an "adventure pack" add-on. (3) Make sure medical evacuation and hospital cover is included, as serious cases sometimes get moved to Colombo. Standard surfing and basic hiking are usually fine, but confirm in writing rather than assuming.

If you plan any diving, that is almost always a separate add-on with a depth limit. And keep all medical receipts; private hospitals here are good but you pay upfront and claim back.

Perfect, adding the adventure pack and confirming the scooter clause. Gracias!

My policy covered scooter riding ONLY with a valid local permit, exactly as said above. I screenshotted that clause and got my AAC permit to be safe.
