When is the official Adams Peak pilgrimage season for tourists.
I want to climb the sacred mountain of Sri Pada at night to watch the sunrise. When does the climbing season officially open and is it really crowded.

The official pilgrimage season runs from December full moon through May full moon known as Vesak. During this period the entire pathway is illuminated with electric lights, rest stops sell hot tea and snacks, and thousands of pilgrims climb together throughout the night. The atmosphere is incredibly spiritual and uniquely Sri Lankan.
Weekends and full moon poya days are absolutely packed with locals. For a more peaceful climb pick a weekday in February or March. Start your ascent around two in the morning to comfortably reach the summit before sunrise around six. Pack warm layers as the summit gets surprisingly cold even after the hot climb.
