Almost all guesthouses and hotels in Sri Lanka have dedicated, secure parking areas within their gates specifically for guests. They are very accustomed to tourists arriving in rental cars or tuk tuks.

If you must leave it on the street in a busy town, always park under a street light and ensure the steering column lock is engaged. Tuk tuk theft is extremely rare, but it is best to be safe.

When you book your accommodation, simply check if they list free parking. When you arrive, the host will direct you where to park safely overnight behind their fence.
