I am a birdwatcher visiting the central highlands. Are there endemic species in the Knuckles forest and do I need a specialized guide.

The Knuckles Range is a hotspot for endemics. You can frequently spot the Sri Lanka Blue Magpie, the Yellow eared Bulbul, and the Sri Lanka White eye. Because of the dense cloud forest and mist, a specialized birding guide is highly recommended as they know the specific calls and nesting areas. The best time for birding is between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM when the forest canopy is most active.
