When traveling on the train from Kandy to Ella, you absolutely want to secure a seat on the right hand side of the carriage. This side offers the most spectacular, sweeping panoramic views looking down into the deep valleys and endless tea estates.

The left side mostly faces the steep rock cuttings and mountain walls for the majority of the journey. However, the views constantly change, so spending time hanging near the open doors on both sides is the best strategy.
