The traffic on the main Galle to Matara coastal highway becomes absolutely unbearable during school run hours. You must avoid driving between 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM, as the narrow road becomes clogged with thousands of students, tuk tuks, and buses.

The early morning commute between 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM is also incredibly chaotic and slow moving. If you plan to travel between coastal towns, aim for the mid morning or late afternoon windows.
