Towns are open and full of tourists. What is not normal is the rail spine and the odd road closure after a night of rain (NBRO / DMC). August showers can shut a B-road for a morning. Build slack. Little Adam's Peak and Nine Arch are walking/tuk trips and have been operating. Nine Arch without the through-train is quieter between local movements. DMC landslide/road is 177, tourism hotline 1912.
Ella in July: guesthouses open, hikes open, one day the Wellawaya road was delayed by a slump. Ask your host that morning.
Skip only if there is an active warning the day you travel. Do not skip because of a November article.

People outside stations offer to "help" buy tickets but charge large markups. They may buy cheap third-class tickets and sell as more expensive classes.
