Can we buy snacks and water during the ride or should we pack our own lunch.

Yes, the train journey is a fantastic culinary experience on its own. Local vendors constantly walk up and down the aisles throughout the entire seven hour trip selling excellent, cheap snacks.

You can easily buy hot cups of sweet tea, fresh fruit, roasted peanuts, and incredible spicy lentil fritters called vadai directly from your seat.

However, they do not sell full, heavy meals. It is highly recommended to buy a proper lunch packet or some sandwiches from a bakery in Kandy to bring on board, and just buy the snacks from the vendors.
