I am a passionate photographer and want to capture the giant Buddha statue. Are there any restrictions on taking pictures or using a tripod inside the temple grounds.

Photography of the giant white Buddha statue and the surrounding temple grounds is completely allowed and even encouraged at Bahirawakanda. However the most important strict rule across all of Sri Lanka is that you must never ever pose with your back facing the Buddha statue. This is considered deeply disrespectful and can even result in fines or being asked to leave. Tripods are generally allowed in the outdoor areas but always ask the resident monks before setting up inside any covered shrine room.
