Arriving at CMB Airport at 2 AM. What is a fair taxi price to Colombo Fort?

My flight lands very late and public transport won't be running. I'll need a taxi to my hotel in Colombo Fort.

Should I pre-book online, or just grab a taxi at the airport? I'm worried about getting overcharged because I'm a tourist arriving late at night. What is the current rate?

You have a few safe options at the airport, so don't worry about the late hour.

Option 1: Airport Taxi Counter (Easiest): As you exit customs into the arrivals hall, you will see a row of taxi counters. They offer a fixed rate (currently around 7,000 – 9,000 LKR to Colombo, depending on the vehicle). It is slightly pricier but safe and official.

Option 2: PickMe/Uber (Cheapest): You can use the free airport Wi-Fi to book a PickMe. The cost is usually lower (around 5,000 – 6,500 LKR + highway tolls). Note: The driver cannot park right at the exit; you usually have to walk 50 meters to the outer pick-up lane.

Highway Tolls: Remember that the passenger usually pays the Expressway toll (approx 400 LKR) on top of the fare. Make sure you have some small cash (LKR) for this, or ask the driver to add it to the final bill.
