We want to experience authentic culture and stay directly on a working tea estate in Haputale Are there homestays where we can eat local food

Yes! There are many community-based tourism initiatives where estate families have upgraded a spare room in their "line houses" for tourists. You will eat the authentic, incredibly spicy Tamil food they cook daily, and you can walk the dirt paths through the estate to watch the pluckers working. It is a raw, beautiful cultural experience.

Bring warm clothes! Those tin-roof rooms have zero heating and it drops to 12 degrees at night.
