Skip the main Ravana Falls. Instead, take the hiking path leading towards Kithal Ella. It is tucked into the jungle right off the train tracks before the steep ascent to Ella Rock. Because it requires a bush hike, tour buses cannot reach it. The pool is calm and you can set up a tripod peacefully without people bumping into you.
Secret Waterfall (that is the actual name on maps) is another great one. Deep in the tea estates and totally empty.
Beware of monkeys trying to steal your camera bag while you swim.
No, the path diverting off the train tracks is fairly obvious. Maps.me works perfectly for it.
Watch out for leeches on that trail! Especially if you are standing still doing long exposure photography.
