For photography, Little Adams Peak is actually better for sunrise. The sun rises directly in front of you, casting incredible light down the Ella Gap valley. Ella Rock is a much higher and tougher hike, but you are often looking sideways or into the shadows during the actual sunrise. Plus, Little Adams Peak takes only 30 mins to climb, so you can easily carry a tripod in the dark.
Ella Rock is better for sunset or mid-morning when the light fills the valley.
Yes, the path is very wide and clear. You will probably see dozens of other tourists doing the exact same thing.

People outside stations offer to "help" buy tickets but charge large markups. They may buy cheap third-class tickets and sell as more expensive classes.
