You need to go to Matey Hut. It is a tiny spot just past the railway station. Their coconut roti is made fresh on a hot iron plate, crispy on the outside and soft inside. Pair it with their spicy onion sambol and a steaming cup of plain tea. You will have your energy back in no time.
Matey Hut is legendary, but if the line is too long, try the small roadside carts near the turnoff to Nine Arch Bridge. They sell amazing hot roti stuffed with vegetable curry.
I gained 5 kilos in Ella just eating roti. Totally worth the hike up the rock just to justify eating four of them.
If you want something sweeter after the hike, ask for the roti with Kithul treacle instead of the spicy sambol. It is a massive sugar boost.
Do not forget to ask for a side of dhal! Dipping hot coconut roti into thick Sri Lankan dhal is the ultimate post hike breakfast.

People outside stations offer to "help" buy tickets but charge large markups. They may buy cheap third-class tickets and sell as more expensive classes.
